I recently turned in a report of this business, (The Black Alliance building with multiple offices, fronts, etc. The report shows it as “closed”. The “Only” change that is visible is someone added a sign from the Minority Business Development Center that shows several sponsors and states there will be an Opening or Coming Soon in 2018. I called the City again and someone who would not state their name and didn’t seem to want to discuss anything with me said that if the report was closed, then its closed. They were not helpful and bordered on rude and didn’t act as City Officials should act to a citizen using a City provided app and/or service. I’m not expecting them to tell me any details on the investigation nor did I ask for or want any details, I simply asked why only adding a large sign sufficed for an obvious and present Code Violation for Building Frontage requirements that other businesses in the area that have had to deal with with court appearances, fines, and confusing explanations by multiple Code Officials either on site in person or on the phone. but not this business ??? My new report is again as follows; the same issues remain today as on the first report, unfinished frontage and exterior, not enough glass on the front of a building, no visible permits or work orders, off street parking for a business that has no parking lot and is obviously operating at least one business from the building. Thank you for this report system and I will check the status of report and building until I see what’s required per my many conversations with Code Officials. It’s obvious what they are telling me isn’t being done or followed at this business for still yet unknown reasons. I’m curios now if the new signage that was applied and the assumed General Contractor for the business (Givsco) signage that’s currently,on the building front is even legal or meets Code Requirements or violates the Illegal Signage Codes. I’d rather not submit a second report for Illegal signage but I will.
Building/Business facing Garden (Black Alliance and other unknown business in same building on Tyng side) has no visible posted, permits, yet minor work is seen done from time to time and dumpsters are placed and removed periodically at different times. When the work or dumpster is visible, No Posted Permits are EVER visible or provided. When the City Code Enforcement Officer was asked why this occurs, He stated that “the business in a work in progress” ?.? What does that mean and why do they not need permits like every other business owner ? When the City CEbOffice was called, staff stated that the reported business had no current permits on file for anything. The building doesn’t follow City Code for front of business requirements for 70+% coverage with glass. Owner has repeatedly complained of surrounding businesses not following codes and those owners have been to court and or fined for same exterior work. When checked, The reported business has no record of any court appearances or fines. The,owner isn’t following Codes as I have read them pertaining to business requirements. The business is also allowed to open and operate with No Off Street parking or (lot), although they tell their customers to park in an adjacent privately owned, leased lot West of Tyng that they have no permission to use or pay any lease monies to the lot owner. Please review this as I have assisted many businesses in the area and it seems this business gets a “Pass” for some unknown reason(s).
